I see where there can be multiple bands per record but can there be
multiple records per band? Other then the columns property.

Only one detail band will print in association with one record traversal in
the pipeline. Subreports are generally used when you want to print multilpe
records within one band. The subreport will print within the height of the
band it is placed within.
