    these.

Wow, so finally here it is! The DM Team is excited about RB 11!

The feature list is extensive - thanks to the ReportBuilder community for
all of your feedback! Several of the features compliment one another to
provide a nice synergy. And without a doubt RB 11 includes some ground
breaking new features that take the product forward and break barriers to
    building real world reporting solutions.

It should be noted that RB 11 can open and run reports created by prior
versions. This extends to RB 11 for Unicode VCL (i.e. D2009).

There are many requested features that did not make it into RB 11, there are
always tough choices with each release. We will keep working hard on our 'To
    Do List' going forward!

The DM Team is also excited about rbWiki! A second big Wow!

I invite everyone to stop by rbWiki and spend some quality time! Each major
category has an architectural diagram that provides a visualization of how
the product fits together. Below that is a table of contents that lists the
articles. Also try out the navigation menu on the left and the search engine
at the top of the page.

Much of the content and examples that we post on the newsgroups gets lost,
rather than contributing to a knowledge base such as rbWiki. To kick things
off, we have taken a population of our internal code examples and turned
them into How To's. Going forward we will be adding How To's to demonstrate
RB features and address frequently asked questions.

I don't wish to throw a spanner in the works, but the price for the
enterprise version keeps creeping up and paying 50+% of it to update year
after year is becoming very expensive.

Prices are the same - we have /not/ raised our prices. :)

Prices for new licenses are the same as 10 years ago.

Prices for upgrades are the same as they were for RB 9 and RB 10.

I would very much like to raise prices. What would be my motivation for
that? Greed? Or maybe, just maybe the revenue from the product goes into
making the product better, into providing the high level of tech support and
customer service that is our goal.

Myself and the others on the DM team are very passionate about Delphi and
ReportBuilder and about helping customers build world class reporting
solutions. We are in this business because we love it and the RB products
and community reflect that as do the past 10 years of history helping
    thousands of customers.

It is impossible to have a perfect licensing model - one that makes everyone
happy and still supports a busines. Our products represent a great value -
you get what you pay for and then some. When you look at something like RB
Enterprise, you are really purchasing a report development environment
(query tools, run-time Pascal, layout designer, etc) that you can build into
your applications and distribute to your end-users royalty free. From that
perspective our products are extremely inexpensive.

I know Nard replied, but a couple other thoughts could be added here as
    well.

First, there is no demand that you upgrade. You still have the old version,
you still get to use it. (In my world, we have an annual license, and if you
don't pay, the software expires--I could not survive with the upgrade if you
    want model).

Additionally, we as a community need to realize that Delphi isn't a growing
community, and support the 3rd party vendors as best we can. Not that they
are charities, but they all could be jumping ship to the larger, bigger
world of .NET. It's great to have RB still being added onto.

If the guy who complained about the price is a successful developer, he
should have known better. He should have known:
    1. RB is an excellent well supported product in a market full of inferior
products and therefore is a value.
    2. You never complain about the price of a product to the developer.
Developers are too personally attached to their product as a result of
enormous sacrifices to develop and maintain their products. There is no way
to seperate yourself emotionally from the product and any criticism of the
    product.

    Thanks for a great product.

The design guides do not need to be activated. They are very similar to the
form designer in the Delphi IDE. As you move an object close to vertical or
horizontal alignment with another object, the design guides will show up
ensuring the two components are aligned.
