Licensing costs and backward compatibility

edited November 2016 in General
Hi,

I have a couple of questions about upgrading:

1. Generally speaking, we're not able to upgrade from our current Delphi
2009 / RB 15.05 configuration, however in order to try to solve a
customer's problem with RB Server, we were thinking of getting just a
single Delphi XE 10 (or whatever the current release is) licence and RB
17 just to build the Report Builder Server service component for use
with the web tier. The reports would still be designed on RB15 in a
Windows app. If users then used a web app to produce the reports (on an
RB 17 web service) would this work?

2. What are your licencing terms? I couldn't see on the website, so
forgive me if I've missed it. Are you licences per site, per computer or
per developer? We have three developers and a TeamCity agent that use
Delphi, so is that four licences or does one licence cover all
developers at this office?

Thanks.

    Hi Stephen,

    1. I recommend upgrading to Delphi 10.1 Berlin and ReportBuilder 17.x and
maintaining a subscription to both. Keeping current on developer tools is an
important part of maintaining systems and is a smart investment.

    2. RB 17 can open and run reports created with prior versions. Have not
tested what you describe, but would probably work. The report server and web
tier apps need to be built using the same RB version.

    3. Licensing is per Delphi developer. WCBS has 1 license to RB 15.
