Question about columnar reports

I've got a columnar report with two tables. the first one prints fine
but the second table can have 1-n records based on a field in the first
table.

I've tried subreports, groups, and dynamically growing a memo field but
only ever get one line of data. Seems to be try no matter what event I
fire it against.

Is this possible or are columnar reports just not gonna do that?

    A subreport set to pbChild will not print columns from TopToBottom - that is
    limitation of the way in which a child subreports prints. Using RB 7.03, you
    can set the columns to LeftToRight and it will work (Prior to RB 7, this
    feature did not work).

    A subreport set to pbFixed will print columns. When using a pbFixed
    subreport, you must size the subreport to occupy the exact amount of page
    space - it will not stretch vertically.
