ExtraDevices FastCompression PDF Option

edited March 2003 in Devices
I'm using ExtraDevices to export to PDF. I've tried turning on the
FastCompression, ShrinkMemos, and CompressStreams properties and none of
them make the PDF any smaller. (ScaleImages does make it smaller, but it
makes the images ugly!) CompressStreams actually makes the PDF bigger!

Why is this? Do these compression options only work for certain types of
PDFs or are they turned on by default?

All compression options are on by default. What version of the devices
and Delphi are you using? What is the content of the reports? Images,
text or both? Are the images large?

    Delphi 4
    Report Builder 6.03
    Extra Devices 2.53

The report I'm working on right now is 61 pages. Each page has a logo at
the top and a logo at the bottom. Most pages contain three or four columns
of text and/or numbers. Everything is in one font.

ZLIB compression of the PDF document is not available in the D4
version since ZLIB was not included with the Delphi 4 install.
You can however install it from the CD and edit txdefs.pas to
include the USEZLIB define. Recompile the package and
the PDF files will be much smaller.
