client report explorer loading very slow over the internet

We have implemented a client server report builder solution for our clients
using report builder 10.02 server edition. We have tested the solution on
our machines at our office and it's fast and works well. Our clients are
complaining that it takes about a minute for the report explorer to open and
sometimes it even times out when using the solution over the internet.
However after the report explorer is open then the report generation is a
descent speed. Our clients are all located in England and have broadband
connections. The server is located in a data center in London. We also
created a report designer application that connects directly to the database
at the data center, it has a normal explorer component and it apparently
opens up quickly. Has anyone else had any speed issues with the client
explorer and perhaps know how to solve them?

    For RB 10 some optimizations were introduced for the Report Explorer (both
    end-user and server). However, to take advantage of the optimizations you
    need to configure the ReportExplorerVolume to use the new
    ItemTemplatePipeline property. Check out the online help for
    TrsReportExplorerVolume class, ItemTemplatePipeline and for examples, check
    out RBServer\Servers\Explorer Databases

    It worked!
