Left Margin

HP LaserJet 5

If I set the printer to Default and the left margin to 0.25 inches the
margin is 0.875 inches.
If I set the printer to HP LaserJet 5 and the left margin to 0.25inches it
is 0.25 inches.
Is this a known problem with Report Builder 5.56 ? I would prefer to stick
with version 5.XX for a while if I can solve this problem.

What is the default printer installed on the machine? Some printers have
different measurements which have been defined for the unprintable areas on
the paper, as that may cause the problem? This isn't a known issue with
    5.56.

The printer is an HP LaserJet 5. It is the default printer on my PC.
The only thing I forgot to mention is that I am printing landscape not
    portrait.

How does reportbuilder determine the non-printable are when the printer type
    is set to default?
Does it change the dimensions of this area when a printer is selected from
    the print preview screen?

    John,

    I'm having a similar printing in landscape mode. I printing 5.5 x 8.5
postcards and I'm getting a 2 1/2 " left margin and can't seem to find
out where it is coming from. Actually it starts printing in the
middle of a memo. It looks fine in preview mode.

We use an HP Laserjet 5 here and it prints with no problem for RB 5.56.
Install the latest driver from HP. Can you send us a demo report and we'll
print it on our HP LaserJet 5 printer to investigate this further,

The printer driver determines the unprintable area. In RB, you can attempt
to print anywhere you want on the page and RB will let you try to print into
the unprintable area. For example, let's say the printer's unprintable area
is 0.25 inches on all sides. Set the left margin to be 0.05 inches, and
then drop a label at (0,0) in a band. You'll see that the first 0.20 inches
of the label gets chopped off. The idea is that the report's margins should
be set to the unprintable area so that one report layout can be printed on
many different printer with different unprintatble areas.

Robert, Are you using RB5.56 or 6.02? Are you also using the HP LaserJet 5
    printer?
Can you send a demo to support@digital-metaphors.com
