Slow printing with latest version

Hi Support, has something changed within the latest RB which can affect printing? I see a slowdown at the first Step "Accessing to data" in German it shows "Greife auf Daten zu..." but this happens only if i directly print or save to file. If we show Preview it shows immediately.

Any others reporting something like this?

Hi Yusuf,

This is not a known issue.

1. Are you using the latest version of ReportBuilder?

2. Which version did you notice the slow-down started? It would be helpful to get a time frame so we could track down any changes made.

3. If you downgrade to the previous version (or the version that didn't appear to have the issue) do the same reports run faster?

1. yes, I'm using latest RB Ent.

2. I think something after August 2022 ..

3. not possible at the moment.

I want to know if someone else has noticed this or it could be something in our source but crazy that the preview shows without problems immediately (but calculates the pages a while) and the printout hangs some time before even starting to count the pages.

Perhaps someone will chime in, but we have not heard of this behavior with the latest version of ReportBuilder.

can you tell me what's happening in the first step when we call report.print?
In our case it stays a while "... accessing data ..." before it shows the calculation progress like "page 1 of 50" ...

It feels like its *10 slower than going into preview and seeing the calculation of pages on bottom left statusbar ...

Any tips / hints?

Hi Yusuf,

We have not heard of this behavior by any other customers and are not noticing it when testing ourselves. Are you able to recreate this with a simple example? If so, please send it to me and I'll test with multiple versions of RB to track down the issue.

Hi Nico, we've tried this with your very latest RB enterprise with same slowness.
I will try to create a demo for this in the next days ... if possible and get back to you

I am having the same problem. I just migrated an application using D10.4.1 & RB Ent 20.04 to D11.3.1 & RB Ent 22.01. I used sub-reports and total page number in the reports. Previously, with RB20.04 a 20+ page report could show up within 5 seconds. Now with RB22.01, it took 30 seconds. Messages like "Accessing to data", 'calculating", "drawing" showed visibly and a quite a while. Not sure what is the issue.

Is there a RB20.04 for Delphi 11 ?

Hi Peter,

Try loading the report definition and set Report.PreviewFormSettings.UseBackgroundThread False.

Turning off the background threading often solves these types of freeze/slowness issues.

By default RB generates preview pages in a background thread. This requires thread-safe data access. For example, no visual controls can be connected to the same dataset as the report.

The user is wondering if there is a version of RB20.04 available for Delphi 11.

Hi Nard. I did as you suggested, i.e. set Report.PreviewFormSettings.UseBackgroundThread False. But it still takes 45 seconds to generate the report. I can see the message "Calculating page 1 for report Report" all the way to "Calculating page 22 for report Report" followed by "Drawing page 1 for report Report" all the "Drawing page 22 for report Report". Previously using D10.4.1 & RB Ent 20.04, the report generated within 4 seconds.

Please advise.

RB 22.02 resolves the printing issues automatically.

RB 22.02 contains mods to address an issue that in some cases could cause slower performance.
