Attempted fix to daFIBPlus and strange beahvious

edited April 2004 in DADE
Hi

We have Firebird 1.03 and FIBPlus 5.2 and we are trying to use ReportBuilder
Pro 7.03 ( Trial ). We have encountered the following problems :-

Firstly the DADE plugin for FIBPlus does not work. So I commented out the
lines of code that did not work and now, although it semed to compile, I am
not so sure it is doing what it is supposed to.

I have an example I have built that I can send if you wish, whereby the
Designer works for Paradox and the Preview pane show the data when using a
Paradox table. However, with Firebird / FIBPlus, although the field
selection and display in the Design Tab works it does show the Preview
Pane.

Can you explain what is going wrong and what we can do about it. Also, I am
a little puzzled that you do not seem to "own" the DADE plugins and that I
was told to "make my own" when it came to FIBPlus. Why is this ??

This is the second time you have posted about the exact same issue. Perhaps
my prior responses on this subject were not clear. I just re-read them and
they seem quite clear to me - but then again I wrote them. :)

Please read the entire content of the following threads in this newsgroup
and let me know what questions you have.

    2/17/2004 - DADE plugin for FIBPlus 5.x
    4/14/2004 - Problems with daFIBPlus

    1. The approach to updating the daFIBPlus that I recommend is to throw away
the existing one and use the daIBExpress plugin installed to
    RBuilder\Source.

I suggest this approach because it will be easier for you to take an
existing plug-in that works and modify the classes.

The existing daFIBPlus is old and does not contain the newer thread-safe
architecture that was introduced for ReportBuilder 7. If you want to compare
the current daIBExpress to the old daFIBPlus that would be another approach,
but I think it more prone to error. Do not compare to paradox. Compare to
    daIBExpress

    2. I explained ownership of the plugins in my prior post. I mentioned
several options - the last of which was to update the daFIBPlus plugin
yourself. Please re-read my response and post additional questions here.
