TExtraDevices to Excel issue

edited November 2006 in Devices
Hi,

We use TExtraDevices version 2.53 for Delphi 7 enterprise and ReportBuilder
(v7.01). The report exports fine as Excel file, but afterwards if I open the
file in Excel (we use Office 97) there were a few problems. The problems are
that 1) the worksheet frequently crashes Excel and 2) some of the Excel
functions don't work. For instance if you select a cell and try to format it
using the Percentage Style (%) or the Currency Style ($) icons from the
Excel toolbar it will make the cell bold and into a different font but not
the desired format (% or $). However, you can format the cells correctly if
you select the Format Cells... commands in the pop-up menu or from the
Format pull-down menu.

These problems do not exist for worksheets created directly using Excel. I
tried copying the entire worksheet in the exported file to a brand new
worksheet and the same issue exist, so it seems something is wrong with the
cells contained in the exported file.

Do you know whether my version of TExtraDevices has a compatibility issue
with my version of Excel? And is there any similar issues known or reported
and is there a solution for it?

Thank you. Looking forward to hear from you.

Bill

Hi Bill. First, an answer to your question, then a question of my own. :)
I use RB 6.01 with an older version of TExtraDevices than you have. Yes, we
tend to see the same result you describe. I think it's in the component
from James Waler. I have no clue if he's fixed this in later versions but I
hope so. I just downloaded his Delphi 6 version and am now getting install
errors, so have fun with that! I downloaded his newest versions
to fix my negative number format issue. The freezing happens to us for
users of Excel 2002 as well. You may want to contact James Waler at
Support@waler.com. Before you do, though, read the next post from me.

Now for my question to you: I used to work with a Bill Chen at CCH Computax
in Torrance California in the 1990's. Are you that Bill?

Thanks Debbie for the information. I did send an email to Waler support but
have not received an answer yet.

And sorry, I'm not the same Bill. I have never worked at CCH in Torrance
before. But that would have been pretty cool to run into an ex-coworker like
    this.

    Bill
