RTF Exporting

edited February 2005 in Devices
Having last year converted from QuickReport (using QR's own export
components) to ReportBuilder + GNostice EDocEngine our users are now
moaning that editing rtf exports in Word is practically impossible
because of numerous Text Boxes (even using the "ease of editing" option
in EDocEngine).

Anyone know how to stop this in EDocEngine or know of any good RTF
export components (for RB7 and RB9, D7 and D2005), that don't place
Text Boxes all over the page.

Regards,
Cary.

You can try TExtraDevices. A demo, manual & FAQ are at www.waler.com.
The RTF device does not use text boxes.

    Hi Cary,

You would be pleased to know that we have completed the implementation of
another mode of RTF encoding that does not use text boxes, and yet retains
positional accuracy. So now you can select either of the modes programmatically
and even let the use choose it at run-time. Please email us at our support
    address to get the update.

I also encountered the same problem (diting rtf exports in Word is
practically impossible because of numerous Text Boxes) in using
PsRBExportDevices 2.02 [RB 6.03] to export my RB reports.

    Anyone can help?

    Benson.

    Girish,

That sounds great but then I assume I'd have to upgrade to Version 2.x (I'm still
    using 1.1 EDocEngine and PDFToolkit)?

    Regards,
    Cary.

    Girish,

What I also should have asked is, is there an executable demo available to download
and I can test on a RAF file?

The upgrade cost may be wholely justified in our users eyes if the RTF export
produces a file that can be easily edited in Word.

    Cary.

    Hi Austin,

Sorry, I took off this weekend, after a long long time :).

I understand you've got a reply to the email you sent to our sales address but
briefly, we offer a special discount on our products for users who are using
    certain products from other companies.

    Girish,

I've now upgraded to eDocEngine 2.01 and tested the updated RTF export engine
and while there's a few minor issues which I've e-mailed to support I can
happily say that the rtf file produced with the "Ease of editing" option is much
    improved.

    Many thanks,
    Cary.
