No data in runtime

edited February 2006 in Datapipelines
Hi,

i've taken over a project of a fellow worker. Installed ReportBuilder
Enterprise 6.02 for Delphi.

When looking with a ppReport1 to the example page, this looks ok. However
after compiling the programm it seems that the manual set labels are filled
with the proper data; other data is not shown. When changing back to my
fellow worker, the same source works ok.

What can be the difference ?

All dataset are opened an the tppDataPipeLine are attached to queries which
containt data on the moment report is made up.

Thanks

Kees

    Hi Kees,

Be sure that the queries you are connecting your datapipelines to are
actually returning data. As a test, try placing a DBGrid on your form and
connecting it to the datasource object. Then be sure the correct data is
showing up in the grid. This is the exact data that the report will see if
the DataSet - DataSource - DataPipeline - Report are all linked correctly.

Take a look at the main demo application located in the \RBuilder\Demos\1.
Reports\... directory. There are numerous demos that use datapipelines
connected to a dataset on a form. Are these demos working correctly? See
if you can find where your application is differing from these demos.

The demos give the same results

Which version of Delphi are you using? Try downloading a later trial
version of ReportBuilder and see if that fixes the problem. ReportBuilder
7.04 was the last version available for Delphi 5 and the trial can be
downloaded from the following link. RB 10 is the latest version available
for Delphi 6, 7, 2005, and 2006 and can be downloaded from our web site.

Tried Version 7.01 for Delphi 6 with the same results (including not showing
    data in the demo's)

    1. As a simple test, try creating some simple non RB demos that access the
    DBDemos data.

    2. If that works, then perhaps you have a corrupt installation. See article
    below.

    --------------------------------------------
Article: Cleaning up a Corrupt Installation
    --------------------------------------------

If you have been advised by Digital Metaphors technical support that you may
have a corrupt installation, or if you are having difficulty installing,
compiling or running applications after a ReportBuilder install, then it may
be necessary to manually remove all ReportBuilder files from your system.
Corrupt installations usually result when you are installing over a previous
version of ReportBuilder which was not installed into the default directory,
which was recompiled from the source, or when ReportBuilder files were
manually moved from the default install location. Cleaning up a corrupt
installation, consists of locating all ReportBuilder related files, and
deleting them from your system. The first step is to use the uninstall
program to remove as much of ReportBuilder as possible.

    Run the uninstall program

    1. Exit Delphi, and all other applications. You should have no applications
running except the uninstall, otherwise you may lose some of your work.

    2. Select Start | Settings | Control Panel from your Windows desktop.

    3. Double-click the Add/Remove programs icon.

    4. Locate the version of ReportBuilder you wish uninstall and double-click
    it.

    5. The first page of the Uninstall Wizard allows you to choose between an
Automatic or Custom uninstall. Choose Custom and click the Next button.

    6. Click the Select All button, then the Next button. Repeat these steps
until you reach the last page of the wizard.

    7. Click the Finish button. All of the items you selected will be removed
    from the system.

    8. After all the ReportBuilder files are removed, you may be prompted to
reboot the system. If this is the case, reboot the system.

Delete the ReportBuilder root directory (and all subdirectories)

    1. Using the Windows Explorer, locate the ReportBuilder root directory. The
    default directory is:

    C:\Program Files\Borland\DelphiX\RBuilder

    2. Once you have located this directory, inspect it. If you have any custom
work in this directory which you would like to keep, move it to another
    directory.

    3. Delete the ReportBuilder root directory.

    Delete all remaining ReportBuilder files

    1. Using the Windows Explorer, search the entire hard drive for all
    occurrences of:

    dclRB*.bpl
    dclRB*.dcp
    rb*.bpl
    rb*.dcp

    2. Delete any occurrences which correspond to the version you are removing.
All packages are named with the convention NN, where the first number
is the ReportBuilder version and the second number is the Delphi version.
Thus, a typical package name for Delphi 5 would be rbRCL45.bpl. The same
package for Delphi 4 would be: rbRCL44.bpl. Check Installing ReportBuilder
for a list of the packages associated with each version.

    3. Using the Windows Explorer, search your hard drive for all occurrences
    of:

    pp*.*
    da*.*
    ra*.*

    4. These are the prefixes used by individual ReportBuilder units. 'pp' is
used for ReportBuilder units, 'da' is used for DADE units, and 'ra' is used
for RAP units. Depending on which ReportBuilder you have (Standard,
Professional or Enterprise) you may not have all of these unit types.

    Additional Notes

    1. Never have Delphi running when installing ReportBuilder.

    2. All ReportBuilder related files should be stored in the root directory
    $(DELPHI)\RBuilder.

    3. All ReportBuilder run-time packages should be stored in the
    Windows\System directory.

    4. You should never have ReportBuilder files in Delphi\Lib, Delphi\Bin or
    Delphi\Projects\Bpl.

Followed this instructions, removed all former sources. Downloaded the
Trail version of RBuilder 10 and the same results.

Taking example dm0011, put on a grid to see that the data is there; All data
    is shown in the grid.
When putting a showmessage of the custno in the pipline.onnext, the right
    custno are shown.
    However the report stays empty.

    Regards

Sounds very frustrating. Have not ever heard of this before. We have
thousands of users and we have been using the same demos for many years now.
But we have not had any reports of the demos not working.

It is very frustrating because im out of options.
Tried removing as many as possible components, changed order in Library Path
to set Rbuilder's library almost first, reinstalled rbuilder, removed
rbuilder, installed rbuilder again etc. No result.

When having a report with labels, the labels are shown. The repeating areas
are not show. Looking to the data in lets say pipeline.next gives the right
    data.

Can there be any relation with an update of Delphi (using Delphi 6 update
pack 2) or with an update of Windows XP.

  • edited February 2006

If you are using D6, then perhaps there is something related to one of the
update packs. We compile RB with D6 Update 2, but I think there was another
update 2 to the rtl that we do not use. No customer has reported an issue
like this before, so I do not know if that would be an issue or not.

I think this was indead the sollution. I've reinstalled Delphi 6, including
update 2, but not the rtl update. Then reinstalled al my components.
    Now RBuilder works.

    Strange......

Glad this mystery is solved. We had not encountered this before.
