Bringing calculated field results into a lower subreport

Is it possible to bring the results of a calculated field (sum) into a
subreport?

something like

Widget 1 20
Widget 2 40
Widget 3 35
Footer Total 95
SubItems (subreport)
Product 1 35
Product 2 45
Product 3 30
Footer Total 100 Variance: (Footer Sum above - Existing Footer Sum) = 5
