GUID in barcode will not scan

edited May 2011 in General
?I have put a GUID into a barcode (I have tried both Code128 and Code39)
and it will not scan. The GUID is: 3F2504E0-4F89-11D3-9A0C-0305E82C3301.
Has anyone successfully done this?

Am I missing something simple?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Gary,

This is not a known issue. Which version of ReportBuilder and Delphi
are you using? If you change the barcode data to something other than a
    GUID, does it scan correctly?

    ?Hi Nico,

I am using D7 and RB 10.07. I do use the barcode component successfully
with shorter strings, so I thought maybe the length had something to do
with it. The barcode generated for a GUID is pretty wide (especially
with Code39) so that could have something to do with it???

    Thanks for any ideas!

If you try to use the barcode with a longer string (similar length to
the GUID) does it scan correctly? What happens if you remove the
hyphens from the GUID and just add the numerical values? Does that scan?

I'm trying to find out if this is an issue with scanning all barcodes of
this length or just barcodes with GUID style data. I also need you to
test the exact barcode that won't scan with other data to be sure it is
not something with the barcode settings that is causing the issue.

    Hi Nico,

With more testing, I actually was able to scan a full GUID in Code128. I
had to be very careful about ambient light (more was better) and scanner
placement and angle to get it to work - so this is very good. I could
not scan a barcode of type Code 39 longer than 25 - the barcode just get
    too big/wide.

    Thanks!

    1. If you try to scan a Code39 barcode with a small string as the data,
    it functions correctly?

    2. Do all strings larger than 25 characters fail to scan when using
Code39? What happens if you place a barcode on an empty report, set the
Data value to the alphabet (26 characters) and try to scan?

    3. Are you changing any of the default properties of the bar code?
    Including the dimensions?
